About us
We are a loving bunch.
We love everything from green tea and hammocks
to AC/DC and long hair, and a million things in between.
But above all we love life, and for life you need an Earth.
And so…
…Ta-da! We offer you simple, non-fussy, Earth-friendly stuff:
for you, your loved ones and maybe even your dog, sneaking a
snooze on a soft bamboo blanket.
We believe in sustainable practices combined with art and beauty,
an everyday balance of practicality and creativity, and trying to
make our footprint as light as possible so our children will have
the chance to experience the natural world in all its glory.
We believe that art and nature are intrinsically connected and
we want to uphold that delicate balance.
We are a family owned and operated small business based on the
Gold Coast in Australia, and with some Swedish genes thrown in
for good measure we are essentially part sunshine and part snowflake.
The Story of Kassiopeja
Pronounciation: cassiopeia, (kās'ē-ə-pē'ə)
The name Kassiopeja (Cassiopeia/Kassiopeia/Casseipeia) comes from the
mythological story of the Queen Cassiopeia and means "she whose words
excel". She was a beautiful queen but also arrogant and vain which
got her in some sticky situations.
The boast of Cassiopeia was that both she and her daughter Andromeda
were more beautiful than all the Nereids, the nymph-daughters of the
sea god Nereus. This brought the wrath of Poseidon, ruling god of the
sea, upon the kingdom of Ethiopia where she reined.
Trying to save their kingdom, Cassiopeia and her King Cepheus consulted
a wise oracle, who told them that the only way to appease the sea gods
was to sacrifice their daughter to the sea.
Andromeda was chained to a rock at the sea's edge and left there to
helplessly await her fate at the hands of the sea monster Cetus. But
the hero Perseus arrived in time, saved Andromeda, and ultimately
became her husband.
Since Poseidon thought that Cassiopeia should not escape punishment,
he placed her in the heavens in such a position that, as she circles
the celestial pole, she is upside-down for half the time.
As it is near the pole star, the constellation Cassiopeia can be
seen the whole year from the northern hemisphere, although sometimes
upside down.
A bit like us really!
